College Basketball Rankings: Projected Top 25 for Week 3
With the second week of college basketball in the books, here’s what the AP Top 25 rankings might look like for Week 3.
Unlike college football, college basketball starts the season quietly and doesn’t get to heat up until late in the season. Sure, football heats up in conference play, too, but there are far more eye-catching non-conference games as opposed to basketball.
It may only seem that way because college basketball’s non-conference season lasts about two months as opposed to football’s one month, or less, of non-league play. Still, there are tournaments approaching, such as the Phil Knight Invitational, which features some of the nation’s top teams and could have some must-see matchups throughout.
Other than that, non-conference play has been an opportunity to shake off the rust from the offseason by scheduling cupcakes.
There are instances, however, of ranked matchups splitting up the snoozers and two of them took place last week in the Champions Classic in Chicago. The top-ranked team in college basketball, Duke, faced off against No. 2 Michigan State and it happened to be one of the best games of the year. The Blue Devils came out on top and solidified that No. 1 ranking.
No. 4 Kansas also faced No. 7 Kentucky and the Jayhawks took down the Wildcats in a less thrilling matchup. The rankings will experience some change this week because of those two games, but they will mostly remain the same.
Here’s a look at what the Week 3 AP Top 25 for college basketball should look like.
