Saints win a thriller in overtime over Redskins, 34-31

The New Orleans Saints beat the Washington Redskins on Sunday afternoon in Week 11 in overtime, 34-31. Here are all the highlights, the game recap and final score.

For nearly four quarters, the Washington Redskins dominated the New Orleans Saints. Washington was racking up yards at will on the Saints defense. However, an 18-point fourth quarter was enough for New Orleans to force overtime.

The Saints pulled it out in overtime to win 34-31 over the Redskins. New Orleans has won eight games in a row and is 8-2 on the season. Washington loses another close one to fall to 4-6 on the year. The Saints look to be a Super Bowl contender in the NFC, while the Redskins might be out of the playoff picture entirely.

If you love good, old-fashioned shootouts at the Superdome in The Big Easy, this game was definitely up your alley. Washington leaned on its franchise quarterback Kirk Cousins to put up over 30 points on an improving New Orleans defense. However, a few miscues late defensively for Washington proved to be its undoing.

Though he wasn’t playing at an elite level early, Drew Brees sure made it count when the Saints needed him most. New Orleans needed a score and a two-point conversion to force it to overtime inside of two minutes. Running back Alvin Kamara would bobble a catch, but found delicious pay dirt to bring up the crucial two-point attempt. Naturally, Kamara would convert.

Washington collapsed on its last few drives. Though the Redskins would get the ball to start the extra period, they would go three and out. New Orleans would need just two plays to get in makable field-goal range for kicker Wil Lutz.

The Saints could thank running back Mark Ingram for that set up. On two runs in overtime, he had 51 rushing yards. The Redskins defense completely gave up in the last several minutes of the game. An outstanding team like New Orleans would take advantage.

This was definitely one of the better games of the early afternoon slate. It went down to the wire, but we can now say this. The Saints are Super Bowl contenders and the Redskins are playoff pretenders. It’s still incredible that the Saints were able to pull this one off to keep the winning streak alive.

1. Mark Ingram: Ingram had 11 carries for 134 yards and a touchdown. He also had three catches for 21 yards.
2. Drew Brees: Brees completed 29 of 41 passes for 385 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He also had one carry for two yards.
3. Kirk Cousins: Cousins completed 22 of 32 passes for 322 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. He also had three carries for 11 yards.

Next Game

The Redskins will have a quick turnaround for Week 12. They will host an NFC East division rival in the New York Giants on Thursday Night Football on Thanksgiving. Kickoff from FedEx Field in Landover will be at 8:30 p.m. ET on Nov. 23. NBC will have the primetime telecast.

The Saints will have to travel across the country to play their Week 12 game. They will face a difficult road opponent in the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. Kickoff from Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum will be at 4:25 p.m. ET on Nov. 26. CBS will have the broadcast.
