Saskatchewan Roughriders vs. Toronto Argonauts live stream: Watch CFL playoffs online
By Adam Stocker
The Toronto Argonauts host the Saskatchewan Roughriders at BMO Field on Sunday, Nov. 19. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
The Toronto Argonauts host the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the East Division final, with the winner earning a trip to the Grey Cup. Toronto finished the season, first in the East with a 9-9 record. The Riders went to Ottawa last week and easily got past the defending Grey Cup champions 31-20.
Toronto’s game plan will be designed around quarterback Ricky Ray, running back James Wilder Jr. and wide receiver S.J. Green. Ray is the East Division’s nominee for Most Outstanding Player after he finished second in passing and third in touchdowns. If Toronto’s offensive line can protect Ray, he can pick apart the defense and will lean on Green. Despite coming off of multiple torn ligaments in his knee, Green had a career year, catching 104 passes for 1462 yards and 10 touchdowns. Wilder busted onto the scene in the second half of the season, recording more than 1300 all-purpose yards.
Defensively, Toronto will rely on their front four. Canadian Cleyon Laing anchors the defense in the middle with defensive ends Shawn Lemon and Victor Butler rushing from the edge. Lemon and Butler combined for 18 sacks despite Butler missing a third of the season with an injury. The big question for the Argos is the availability of strong-side linebacker Marcus Ball, who was injured late in the season. If Ball is unavailable, Cassius Vaughn will move from the secondary to linebacker.
Marcus Thigpen returned to the CFL late in the season after several years in the NFL. Thigpen’s return has been nothing less than spectacular. The running back ran for 159 yards and a touchdown against Ottawa, helping the Roughriders advance to the East final. However, it was the Roughriders’ defense that stood out last week. The Riders forced three turnovers and minimized the damage of all-star receiver Greg Ellingson. Saskatchewan needs their defense to create pressure and get to Ray if they want to become the first crossover team to advance to the Grey Cup. If Ray has time, he will eventually find an open receiver. Willie Jefferson needs to provide constant pressure and force Ray out of the pocket.
