President Donald Trump calls out Marshawn Lynch on Twitter
On Monday morning, Marshawn Lynch became the latest athlete to be specifically called out by President Donald Trump on Twitter.
On Monday morning, Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch became the latest athlete to appear on President Donald Trump’s Twitter timeline.
This came after the Boston Globe‘s Ben Volin reported during the Raiders-Patriots game in Mexico City that Lynch stood for the Mexican national anthem, but sat for the U.S. anthem.
It was the latest chapter of a discussion that has lingered in the President’s tweets and commentary throughout the NFL season. Beginning with a Sept. 22 campaign event in Alabama, President Trump has continuously criticized players who choose to protest during America’s national anthem. On Sunday, Lynch’s decision to sit rather than kneel, as most protesting NFL players have during the last two seasons, apparently caught the president’s attention.
The situation also represents another day in the news for Lynch, who came out of retirement prior to the season to join his hometown Raiders in an attempt to compete for a championship following a 13-3 season for Oakland last year. He was later suspended for the Raiders’ Week 8 game against the Bills after an incident involving physical contact with a referee on the field the week prior.

Now, he has become the latest addition to a list of athletes to be specifically called out by President Trump on Twitter.
The Raiders fell to 4-6 after losing to the Patriots in Mexico City, an underwhelming record for a team who had success last season and believed adding Lynch and others would help them improve. Oakland will host Denver next Sunday afternoon.
