This week, Riverdale is taking some time off for Thanksgiving to make room for the first of a two-night iHeart Radio special on The CW.

Since Jason Blossom’s murderer was revealed at the end of season 1, Riverdale has been getting even darker in season 2. That is all thanks to the arrival of the Black Hood. Since shooting Fred Andrews, he has been terrorizing the town and specifically Betty Cooper, in the name of cleaning up the town.

In addition to Betty spending a lot of her time this season talking to Riverdale’s potential serial killer, the rest of the core four have all been dealing with their own darker storylines through the first six episodes of the season. Thus, now is a perfect time to give the characters a bit of a break for a week.

It all started with Archie Andrews trying to deal with his father getting shot. He became obsessed with tracking down the Black Hood. On the advice of Hiram Lodge, Archie briefly started a vigilante group called the Red Circle. After that led to a fight with the Southside Serpents, he realized how horrible his actions have been so far.

The past couple episodes have seen Archie take on more of a supporting role in both Jughead and Betty’s storylines. Most recently, Archie tried to help Jughead by getting the Ghoulies arrested, which continues his Riverdale season 2 trend of stupid decisions.

Speaking of Jughead, he has now become a full-fludged Southside Serpent. As tensions continue to grow between the Northside and Southside, Jughead has decided he must be the one to stop the violence from getting any worse. But the season is only six episodes old, so the tensions on Riverdale are sure to only get worse.

Finally, there is Veronica, who is adjusting to the return of her father, Hiram Lodge. She is not a fan of her father’s actions and spends the early episodes defying everything her parents said and did. But the final moments of episode 6 revealed that Veronica is a lot like her father. When she hears that Nick was injured in a car crash, she is happy.

So, where is Riverdale going? From the look of the trailer, episode 7 will attempt to set up Sheriff Keller as the Black Hood. It seems way too early in the season for Riverdale to give away something that big. Sheriff Keller being the Black Hood would explain how the Black Hood got into the police station to kill the Sugar Man. But Hank Cooper as the Black Hood still makes more sense.

It has been an action packed first six episodes of season 2, and the characters could use a break from the darkness that has taken hold of Riverdale. So the show is taking a week off for Thanksgiving. Despite Thanksgiving only being an American holiday, international audiences will also need to wait a week to watch the episode. There will be no new episode appearing on Netflix this Thursday.
