ESPN College Pick Em Week 13: Boomer Sooner!

We are down to the last full week of ESPN College Pick Em. They have a week 14 listed, so I hope that they have finally come to their senses and included conference championship Saturday. If not, this is our last chance!

More from College Football Odds

Fun facts for week 12: Only four of us picked Texas, but we all had it as our one point game! Memphis, Georgia, USC, and Boise State all had clean sweeps. So did Oklahoma State in the loss, and none of us had them for less than seven points.

pitt2534 led the group with 46 points this week. That was a lot more than my 33!

annelbaldwin still leads the group with 518 points on the season, but his 32 point week opened up a tight race at the top. earleyca is only three points back now, and Gamebreaker_boz is just eight back. TheMediumLebowski, pitpenguins66, and SDShelton all went over 500 points this week. It’s going to be a great finish!

These picks will be for the confidence version of the game, where you assign a point value from 1-10 based on how confident you are in each pick.

(1) Auburn over Alabama:

Alabama’s strength of schedule is worrisome. No one mentions it as long as they keep winning, but what do they really have? A win over LSU. Auburn doesn’t have that, and they did lose to Clemson. However, the game is in Auburn. I expect a close game here. Auburn thumping a Georgia team that I thought had a shot at Bama sticks in my head. If it were on a neutral field, I like Bama, but it’s not. I will also predict that Bama gets a playoff spot without winning their division.

(2) Notre Dame over Stanford:

This is the type of game that Notre Dame could lose. However, the Cardinal were average against Cal, and that Irish defense can hold Bryce Love to around 100 hard earned yards. This stays close, but I don’t think Stanford’s offense is good enough to take this.

(3) Clemson over South Carolina:

I almost picked this upset. Almost. The fact is that the Gamecocks have not played well in Columbia this season. For whatever reason, they have been worse at home. So something that should be to their advantage may actually be a detriment. Clemson is the safe pick.

(4) Washington State over Washington:

Hey, remember when College Gameday was going to be in Seattle for the Apple Cup? I remember that almost as much as Washington having a good defense. The Huskies D, especially in the secondary, is going to be an issue for UDub. Luke Falk is going to have a pretty good day here.

(5) Appalachian State over Georgia State:

I don’t really see the Panther defense stopping Taylor Lamb and the Mountaineer offense. This might be a close game, but I have my doubts. The Mountaineers are good enough to run off with this.

(6) LSU over Texas A&M:

I haven’t really seen anything from the Aggies that says they can win this in Death Valley. Sumlin’s job was saved against Ole Miss, but it could be all for naught if they get blasted in Red Stick. If it’s a close game, The Aggies may keep Sumlin so they can have the pick of the head coaching litter next year. There are at least four jobs open that are better than this one right now.

(7) Boise State over Fresno State:

The only reason I lowered this is because Fresno has won a couple that they shouldn’t have this year. I really doubt that happens here. The Boise offense is humming along since the rough home loss to the Hoos. They have things figured out. Fresno has hit a snag or two lately.

(8) Georgia over Georgia Tech:

I’m trying to ignore Georgia Tech’s absolutely awful game against Duke last week, and I can’t. Jake Fromm is a freshman in a rivalry game, but you never know. On paper, this shouldn’t be close. In reality, this is the kind of game that Georgia Tech pulls out. That’s why it’s not my ten pointer again.

(9) Ohio State over Michigan

Yes, Michigan has a right to be upset about the Wisconsin game. That shot on Peters was kind of a cheap shot, and it not only changed he flow of the Wisconsin game, but it also may affect this one as well. Not that Michigan had much of a chance anyway, but they have zero chance without Peters.

(10) Oklahoma over West Virginia:

Part of me thinks that the Sooners could have trouble putting that Kansas fiasco behind them. However, it only really affects Mayfield. Kyler Murray could be starting for any other team in the conference right now besides maybe Oklahoma State. I’m not worried about this game.
