High Priced Quarterbacks

Tom Brady – New England Patriots ($7,700) – Another week where one of the best quarterbacks of all time tops the DraftKings rankings. New England Patriots Tom Brady is the leader in the clubhouse for the NFL MVP. Week 12 brings the Miami Dolphins to town as Brady’s next opponent.

The Dolphins rank third in points allowed to opposing quarterbacks over the last four weeks. They’ve allowed the third-most touchdowns over that span as well. Brady is the seventh ranked quarterback over that span. He has not thrown an interception during those four weeks. This matchup screams another dominant Brady performance on Sunday.

Carson Wentz – Philadelphia Eagles ($7,200) – The Philadelphia Eagles embarrassed their divisional rival Cowboys on Sunday night. Quarterback Carson Wentz did not have huge yardage total but he did throw two touchdowns and zero interceptions. The next Eagles opponent is the surprisingly feisty Chicago Bears.

The Bears defense has been playing really well as of late. They rank 25th in points allowed to quarterbacks over the last four weeks. Wentz is in the MVP running with Brady but this is a matchup that the Eagles would be better served leaning on their running game. A big day would not surprise me but the matchup is not a great one for Wentz.

Russell Wilson – Seattle Seahawks ($7,000) – DraftKings did a great job this week ranking possibly the three front runners for NFL MVP atop their quarterback pricing. The final player in that list is Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson. Despite his defenses slides Wilson has continued his great play. No quarterback has thrown more touchdowns over the last four weeks than Wilson’s 10.

This week the Seahawks welcome the San Francisco 49ers to town. San Francisco’s defense has played better as of late against quarterbacks ranking 16th over the last four weeks. Their young front is beginning to gel and they’ve found some suitable corners in the back end. Wilson has become basically matchup proof so it would not be an absurd call to throw him in a lineup. I like other quarterbacks a bit more especially given the fact that Seattle’s defense should shut down the 49ers offense and take the ball out of Wilson’s hands.

Drew Brees – New Orleans Saints ($6,900) – The New Orleans Saints have gone through possibly the biggest transformation from last season. Quarterback Drew Brees has taken a back seat to an extremely potent rushing attack. This week the Saints will likely have to lean on that running game again. They travel to Los Angeles to play the Rams.

The Rams are 28th in points allowed to opposing quarterbacks over the last four weeks. This game could become a shoot out with two high scoring offenses but I see more of a close game in the mid 20s. Brees could have a good day with some check downs and his patent big play or two a game. However, given the Rams lack of ability to stop the run and the Saints dominant running backs, it could be another pedestrian day for Brees.

Jared Goff – Los Angeles Rams ($6,800) – The other team that has seen a huge transformation from a year ago is the Los Angeles Rams. Many people are attributing that turn around to the new coach and the development of quarterback Jared Goff. The former first-overall pick looks like a totally different player. He faces a tough New Orleans Saints defense in Week 12.

The Saints rank 24th in points allowed to opposing quarterbacks over the last four weeks. The Rams are the NFL’s most explosive offense currently but could be slowed down this week. Like I discussed with Brees, this game could be more about the running backs than the quarterbacks. I’d prefer to spend my money on one of those players than either quarterbacks.
