Bears at Eagles: Preview, prediction, odds and pick

ARLINGTON, TX - NOVEMBER 19: Carson Wentz
ARLINGTON, TX - NOVEMBER 19: Carson Wentz

We’re getting ready to see the Philadelphia Eagles host the Chicago Bears on Sunday afternoon. Which team will prevail in this contest?

There is nothing like a little symmetry, NFL style. Roughly a year and a half ago, the Philadelphia Eagles moved up to the second pick in the draft to grab North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz. Seven months ago in the City of Brotherly Love, the Chicago Bears traded up one spot in the first round to secure the rights to North Carolina University signal-caller Mitchell Trubisky.

Now the two young talents will square off on Sunday, with both of their teams in far different situations when it comes to their playoff fortunes this year. But that doesn’t mean that this isn’t a contest loaded with intrigue. So can John Fox’s club pull off a big-time surprise?

Odds

Line: Eagles (-13.5)

Over/Under: 44

That’s a pretty hefty when it comes to the NFC East leaders (courtesy of OddsShark). But also keep in mind that the Eagles’ last three victories alone have come by 23, 28 and 28 points over the San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos and Dallas Cowboys, respectively. But given the way the Bears’ defense has played as of late, the OVER is far from a certainty.

Despite the fact that the Philadelphia Eagles are riding an eight-game winning streak and own a four-game lead in the NFC East, this is a very important game for Pederson’s team. The Birds next embark on a three-game road trip, the first two stops against the Seahawks and Rams. That Chicago Bears’ defense will present some problems for Wentz and company. But Philly’s own defenders will have something to say as well.

Pick: Eagles 24, Bears 9
