CBS has quite a few holiday specials set to air between now and Christmas. The first of those, Frosty the Snowman, will be broadcast November 24th, here’s where you can find it online.

Now that Thanksgiving is officially over, Christmas season can kick into high gear. That’s not to say that some people/places (retailers, radio stations etc) have not been in Christmas mode for months already. But we’re getting close to the time when that type of behavior would actually be appropriate. Some of the first signs of this are the Christmas specials that air on TV throughout the month between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

CBS kicks off their calendar of Holiday programs with the tale of Frosty the Snowman trying to find his way home. It is based on the Christmas song of the same name (and about the same character) that was originally released in 1950. Though the initial version of the song made no mention of Christmas specifically, it nonetheless became a holiday classic. The Frosty the Snowman TV special was created in 1969. It features the voices of Jimmy Durante, Billy Dee Wolfe, and Jackie Vernon. In that special, some of the song’s lyrics were modified for Christmas specifically, and that version of the song has been frequently used since.

The original Frosty the Snowman holiday special is 30 minutes long, and it will be followed (in this case) by another special presentation: Frosty Returns. Created in 1995,  Frosty Returns tells the story of the same Frosty character, albeit with a different cast of voice actors, as he faces a weapon capable of destroying snow (and thus Frosty himself).
