After Chance the Rapper did a great job as host, will NBC air a new SNL episode even though it’s still Thanksgiving weekend?

Season 43 of Saturday Night Live has been a mixed bag thus far. There have been some great highlights, such as the continuous jabs at the White House. But they’ve also fallen into some bad PR such as when Larry David told Holocaust jokes, which isn’t far off of what he’s done in the new Curb Your Enthusiasm season.

Last week was one of the better episodes, as Chance the Rapper wound up being surprisingly good as a musical guest turned host. His best sketch was when he played a clueless hockey reporter who had the catchphrase “let’s do that hockey.”

Anyone hoping for a new episode of SNL this week is out of luck. Even though Thanksgiving and Black Friday have passed, it’s still not the best time as some people may be using the weekend to travel home or take advantage of some ongoing Black Friday deals. Plus, with rivalry week going on in college football, that’s going to occupy many peoples’ attention all day long.

It’s not the first break SNL has taken this season, as they went on a three-week hiatus earlier before returning with the Larry David episode. It won’t be that long of a wait for another new episode, as they’re scheduled to return the following Saturday with Saoirse Ronan and U2. Ronan is a relative unknown, but she’s made a name for herself on Broadway and has a film to promote, so she’ll fit right in with the New York audience. Besides, it’s often the lesser-known guests that end up doing a better job.

It may be frustrating to look forward to SNL only to find out that it’s not on. But the cast is cognizant of that and will likely come out with a strong effort when they return.
