In his press conference after losing to the Ohio State Buckeyes, Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh calls the lifetime contract rumors “fake news”.
The Michigan Wolverines lost yet another heartbreaker to the arch rival Ohio State Buckeyes in The Game on Saturday afternoon. The Wolverines would fall to the Buckeyes, 31-20, and Michigan still has not beaten Ohio State since Jim Harbaugh returned to coach his alma mater.
Earlier in the week, there were rumors that Harbaugh would be in the process of inking a lifetime contract to lead the Michigan football program. Given that Harbaugh never sticks anywhere for more than four or five years, news of that massive contract extension was intriguing.
What wasn’t odd was his response to the lifetime contract rumors during his post-game presser on Saturday afternoon. To be blunt, Harbaugh could the lifetime contract rumors “fake news”. It’s spot on with Harbaugh’s reputation as Michigan’s head coach.
Michigan lost its starting quarterback Wilton Speight early in the season in a narrow victory over the Purdue Boilermakers in West Lafayette. His replacement, John O’Korn, reminded us all season long why he is a former transfer quarterback from the Houston Cougars. He had his opportunity to beat Ohio State but came up a point short.
It’s not just the anger of losing to arch-rival Michigan that had Harbaugh so not wanting to go there with that lifetime contract talk. Keep in mind that Harbaugh could make a return to the NFL, possibly as soon as next year.

The two teams that he has the strongest connection to in the Chicago Bears and the Indianapolis Colts could be looking for a new head coach. Harbaugh played quarterback for both teams. He was drafted by the Bears out of Michigan and is in the Colts Ring of Honor as the greatest quarterback in Indianapolis history before Peyton Manning arrived. So, yes, his lifetime contract with Michigan is totally fake news.
