After firing Kevin Sumlin on Sunday, it appears Texas A&M may already have his replacement lined up.
Kevin Sumlin was relieved of his duties on Sunday as Texas A&M Head Football Coach following six seasons in the position. While many rumors have surfaced over who is set to be the next head coach in College Station, one name seems most prominent: Florida State’s Jimbo Fisher. According to reports, folks around Tallahassee now expect Fisher to take the A&M gig.
The Texas A&M Board of Regents has called a special meeting set for Thursday at 2:30 p.m. as well. In the meeting, they plan to discuss changes in the football program. Whether those changes are discussing Sumlin’s massive buy-out or hiring Fisher, the specifics are not yet known. However, if the prominent reports are true, the hire would be a home run for the Aggies.
During his eight seasons at the helm of Florida State, Fisher has managed an 83-23 record. He’s tallied double-digit wins in every season but two (2011, ’17). Not to mention, he has a National Championship under his belt. In addition, Fisher’s brilliant offensive mind and recruiting techniques would be an upgrade over Sumlin. Aggie fans have become frustrated with Sumlin’s lack of production during his years as head coach.

Fisher’s Seminoles squad has struggled heavily this season, which may factor into his eventual decision. He’s also been highly sought after throughout the last few seasons. Fisher’s name was at the forefront of discussions for the LSU head coaching vacancy last season. Obviously, he returned to Tallahassee. At this point in time, everything is just speculation, but Fisher seems to be the one Aggies want to lead their program next. One thing is certain, however, Fisher is going to get paid if he accepts the Texas A&M job.
