Clippers forward Blake Griffin down with injury yet again

Clippers forward Blake Griffin suffered a knee injury against the Lakers Monday night.

The Clippers are having a tough time. They may have pulled out the win last night, but Los Angeles has still lost 11 of their last 15 games, and now it looks like their star Blake Griffin will miss significant time after he exited last night’s game with a knee injury in the fourth quarter.

The injury occurred when Clippers guard Austin Rivers dove after a loose ball and fell into Griffin’s knee taking him to the ground. Griffin attempted to play through the injury, but quickly realized this wasn’t something he could just walk off; he left the game and did not to return.

This is just the most recent injury in a long history of problem’s he’s encountered with his left leg/knee following a broken kneecap, a knee bone bruise, a meniscus tear, a partially torn quad and a strained hamstring. Because of Griffin’s low durability he’s failed to play over 67 games since the 2013-14 season. However, when Griffin is able to stay on the court he’s brilliant, earning five All-Star appearances in seven seasons and a hefty $173 million contract extension last off-season.

The Clippers are still evaluating the severity of Griffin’s injury, but if he misses a large portion of the season, they may look towards a rebuild as reaching the playoffs without him would be a tall task. Blake’s 23.6 points per game, and 5.1 assists per game lead the team and his second-place 7.9 rebounds per game are invaluable as well. Trade rumors have been swirling around center DeAndre Jordan, and Los Angeles may look to move his expiring contract in exchange for some young talent and/or solid draft picks.

Hopefully Griffin will be back on the court soon, but for now this incident is yet another point on the downward trend of the Clippers season and Blake Griffin’s career.
