This year’s fall Arrowverse crossover began with an attempt by Iris West and Barry Allen to have a traditional wedding in a church, but that’s not exactly how it ended up.
Note: Perhaps obviously, this article contains big time spoilers for the very end of “Crisis on Earth-X,” this year’s massive Arrowverse crossover that spanned four shows and two nights … but did it include any weddings?
Included in all the things it did right, “Crisis on Earth-X” paid homage to a longtime tradition of superhero weddings going awry. Something always happens at a superhero wedding, usually involving villains crashing the ceremony, the reception or both.
We probably should have known that the marriage of Iris West to Barry Allen would be no different. Despite friends and family gathered around them in a Central City church, and Supergirl even pitching in by singing. they didn’t even get to their vows before the poor minister became the first victim of Nazis from Earth-X.

Naturally, the villains were eventually defeated, but all of Iris and Barry’s wedding guests returned to their homes (except for Joe, Cecile and Wally, who were sent away in Part 1 and written out of the rest of the crossover). That left just our two super-couples, including Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak.
Felicity mentioned something about a do-over, but Iris and Barry remarked that they would lessen the chance of extradimensional Nazis if they just got a justice of the peace to do a quick ceremony. They brought up the fact that Oliver could perform a civil ceremony as mayor of Star City, though he pointed out they needed to be actually in his city for that to happen.
If only they knew someone who was ordained and could perform a wedding on the spot …
That thought led Barry to zip over to Star City and return with John Diggle, who had been ordained in order to marry his brother a while back. After getting over some super-speed-related nausea, Diggle said he’d be honored to do the job since he was in town (h/t “Winter Wonderland”).
Barry and Iris exchanged their own vows, but just when Diggle was about to declare them husband and wife, Felicity tossed a late curveball: She asked Oliver to marry her as well, reversing her stance from Part 1 of “Crisis on Earth-X” when she loudly stated she did not want to marry Oliver, believing their relationship was just fine the way it was.
Not one to turn down a chance like that, Oliver agreed, and after much shorter vows of their own — and Oliver noting they could not match Iris and Barry word for word — Diggle got to perform a double superhero wedding. And not a supervillain in sight.

Whether The Flash and Arrow will be better off with #WestAllen and #Olicity now cemented is a topic for fans to debate endlessly for the rest of the season and into the coming seasons as well. But it was only fitting that the crossover finish what it started, even throwing in a bonus wedding to boot.
We’ll just have to accept that both weddings took place on Legends of Tomorrow instead of the characters’ own shows, but that’s what happens when everything is connected.
