FanDuel NHL Blue Line Power Plays: November 28
By Matt Rogers
Welcome back to our FanDuel NHL Blue Line Power Plays column, for Tuesday November 28th. We’re a daily fantasy hockey column focused on top FanDuel NHL plays for your lineups each day.
Yesterday, the Blackhawks and Jets each scored seven goals, and if you stacked those two teams you very likely won every FanDuel NHL cash contest, and had a great shot at GPP. We recommended stacking the Hawks, with Patrick Kane as our top target. Kane piled up three assists on three shots-on-goal for an awesome 33 FanDuel NHL points.
But the big winner of the night was Alex DeBrincat. The 19-year-old Michigan native had an unbelievable game, and was only around 1-5% owned in most formats. DeBrincat had five shots on goal, an assist, and three goals, including a power play goal. In total, Alex provided 52.5 FanDuel NHL points on a cheap $4,800 Salary. What a night!
Our best value pick played out nicely as well. Kyle Connor was only a $4,200 salary, but provided 33.8 FanDuel NHL points with three shots on goal, two assists, and a goal. Connor’s goal was during the man-advantage, as was one of his assists, giving us an extra point.
Several of yesterday’s Flyers picks worked out nicely, with Sean Couturier and Shayne Gostisbehere each scoring a goal, but Jakub Voracek was quiet, only five shots on goal for eight FanDuel NHL points. And while Corey Crawford gave up three goals, he had 25 saves and the win for 20 points. So we take what we learned yesterday, and move on to Tuesday night’s action.
Here’s a look at the NHL schedule for Tuesday, November 28th:
Lightening at Sabres (7pm ET)
Canucks at Islanders (7pm ET)
Panthers at Rangers (7pm ET)
Sharks at Flyers (7pm ET)
Hurricanes at Blue Jackets (7pm ET)
Kings at Detroit (7:30pm ET)
Blackhawks at Predators (8pm ET NBC SN)
Maple Leafs at Flames (9pm ET)
Coyotes at Oilers (9pm ET)
Stars at Golden Knights (10pm ET)
With ten games on the slate tonight, we have many different combinations of stacks we could target, and a plethora of goalie options. So winning tonight is going to be more difficult then Monday night. However, several of these teams played on Monday night, and they’re likely giving their starting goalies a night off, opening the door to some great value opportunities and specific stack targets.
The Sharks goalie, Martin Jones, currently has an undisclosed injury and is not likely to start in Philadelphia tonight. So the Flyers hot first line may continue to roll. Also, while Sergei Bobrovsky and Corey Crawford were great options for goalie last night, they’re likely not starting today.
As always, we’ll look to update our picks and final lineups prior to lock on our twitter account @FantasyCPR so make sure to give us a follow for all the late breaking lineup news.
Now let’s start building our NHL DFS optimal lineup by looking at the top centers for this slate…
Top FanDuel NHL Centers: Nov 28th
With several great players on the ice tonight, the top pick at center is tricky. The Oilers are hosting the Coyotes in Edmonton. While the Oilers haven’t been incredibly productive on offense, they still have Connor McDavid ($9,400) leading their top line, currently one of the best centers in the NHL.
McDavid is sixth in the NHL in points (30), with ten goals and 20 assists. Tonight, he faces a Coyotes team giving up 3.62 goals-per-game, the most in the NHL. McDavid is a great anchor for your FanDuel NHL lineup tonight.
But, Steven Stamkos ($8,700) is also on the ice for the Lightening tonight. The Bolts captain currently has 36 points, leading the NHL, with ten goals and 26 assists. The Lightening also have a favorable match up tonight, with Robin Lehner in net.
The Sabres are giving up 3.42 goals-per-game, tied with the Penguins for second worst in the NHL. And Lehner is 60th in the NHL in goals-against, along with a terrible .905 save percentage. So you could anchor your team with Stamkos or McDavid. However, we like Stamkos more. The Lightening’s entire offense is the most productive in the NHL right now, 3.7 goals per game, and we can stack some of their top-line options.
If, for some reason, you do not like either of the top options, John Tavares ($8,000) is your next-best pick at center. The Isles captain has 15 goals on the season, third best in the NHL. Tavares also has over 17.5 FanDuel NHL points-per-game, more than McDavid.
We liked Sean Couturier ($6,800) last night against the Penguins. With Martin Jones very likely taking tonight off, we love Couturier to continue his hot streak against Aaron Dell. Sean is logging 20-25 minutes per game on the Flyers top line, both during the regular play and man advantage. Couturier is consistently playing with the Flyers top wings and has been incredibly productive this season, averaging over 17 FanDuel NHL points per game.
It’s going to be difficult to dig for value at center tonight because there are so many great options. But if you need to get to a lower price-point with your second center pick, consider Vincent Trocheck ($5,700) or Brayden Point ($5,500).
As mentioned, Tampa’s entire offense is the most productive in the NHL, and Point is leading the Bolts second line. Brayden is logging nearly 20 minutes of ice time each game, and is averaging over 14 FanDuel NHL points-per-game.
While the Panthers have struggled with scoring, Vinny Trocheck continues to quietly dominate on the Panthers second line. In the last six games, Trocheck has two goals and three assists, and is now averaging almost 16 FanDuel NHL points on a very cheap $5.7K salary tonight.
Now let’s take a look at the wings we want to stack along with our centers…
Top FanDuel NHL Wings: Nov 28th
We have to start off the wing picks with an obvious stacking choice. Stamkos is averaging over 20 FanDuel NHL points-per-game, and is on the most productive offense. Steven is leading the Bolts top line, but has Tampa star Nikita Kucherov ($8,800) by his side.
Kucherov is currently second in the NHL with 17 goals, and second in the NHL with 34 points. Nikita become one of the most dominating wings in the game last season, and that has continued into the 2017-2018 season. They’re both very expensive, but with so many skaters on the ice tonight, you can afford them while grabbing value at other positions.
Another very hot pick at wing is Johnny Gaudreau ($8,100). The Flames started the season cold, but their offense has been outstanding over the last two weeks. The biggest contributor has been Gaudreau. Over the last 13 games, Johnny has nine goals and 13 assists, for a total of 22 points.
The Flames are hosting the Maple Leafs who should have Frederik Andersen in net. Andersen is a great FanDuel NHL pick at goalie because he takes on so many shots, but is also a great target for offensive stacks, for that same reason.
For the same reason we liked Couturier, you should consider Jakub Voracek ($7,800) and Claude Giroux ($7,300). While Voracek was quiet last night, he’s still averaging over 17 FanDuel NHL points-per-game on one of the most productive top-lines in the league. Meanwhile, Giroux has a point in each of the last four games, including a goal and five assists.
In the middle of the salary range, we have Josh Bailey ($5,600) whose playing on Tavares’ top line for the Islanders. In the last six games, Bailey has two goals and eight assists, for a total of ten points. Josh’s current scoring streak has propelled him to nearly 14 FanDuel NHL points-per game. The Islanders have a favorable match up tonight, hosting the Cancuks in New York.
There’s a plethora of value picks at wing tonight, but our favorite two are Brendan Perlini ($3,700) and David Booth ($3,000). With the Oilers Cam Talbot in net tonight, Perlini has the better match up. While the Coyotes have struggled this season, Perlini is playing on their top line, which has been productive. Over the last six games, Brendan has four goals and one assist, including a goal in each of his last four games. That streak is likely to continue tonight.
The Kings may have Jonathan Quick is goal tonight, which presents risk for anyone playing Red Wings skaters. But after a rock-solid start to the season, Jonathan has been struggling, giving up around two to three goals per start over the last couple of weeks, and losing six of his last seven starts.
Booth has generally had limited time on ice, only six to nine minutes. However, David is likely starting with the Red Wings top line tonight, and has two goals and one assist in the last two games. It’s very likely David gets some more time on the ice tonight, and could be a very cheap way to land double-digit points.
Top FanDuel NHL Defenders: Nov 28th
We consistently loved Brent Burns ($6,600) last season. But Burns isn’t nearly as productive this year, and is consistently expensive on FanDuel NHL. So we’re going to give Burns a hard pass until one of the two change.
That immediately moves our attention to Victor Hedman ($6,200). With around 25 minutes of ice time each game, Hedman is able to pile up blocked shots and take saveral shots on goal for a decent six point FanDuel NHL base each night. But with the match up in Buffalo, Victor is likely to be involved in one or more scoring results, leading to a 15 to 20 point result.
With Crawford likely not on the ice for the Blackhawks tonight, we’ve failed to mention a good Predators team, until now. Roman Josi ($6,100) is our favorite of the top defenders on Tuesday night.
Josi also could see around 20 minutes of ice time and consistently blocks shots and peppers opposing goalies like Hedman. But Roman has been more offensively productive, including five assists and one goal in the last six games. If you need a cheaper option, P.K. Subban ($5,700) will give you nearly the same productivity.
Once again, with the Flyers on the ice and a favorable goalie match up, we can’t ignore Shayne Gostisbehere ($5,500) and Ivan Provorov ($4,500). Each is providing consistent value each week, with Ghost averaging over 14 FanDuel NHL points-per-game and Provorov around 13 points.
Top FanDuel NHL Goalies: Nov 28th
With Bobrovsky likely taking the night off, Andrei Vasilevskiy ($9,200) is easily the best goalie on the ice tonight. Vasilevskiy has the best mach up, in Buffalo, and the best offense behind him. Andrei is consistently making 27 to 35 saves per night, and with a win is nearly a lock for close to 30 FanDuel NHL points.
Frederik Andersen ($8,300) continues to be a top FanDuel NHL play, given the enormous number of shots he sees each game, and nearly 40 saves per game he’s able to snag over the last two weeks. The only concern with Andersen tonight is the match up. The Maple Leafs travel to Calgary to play a hot Flames offense tonight, which could put a 12+ point dent in Frederik’s FanDuel NHL point results.
Not only for value, but also for a top-five FanDuel NHL point result at goalie, we love the Vegas Golden Knights net-minder tonight. Unfortunately, it’s been hard to predict who will start until they take the ice during their practice skate, during the day, today. So stay tuned on Twitter, with FantasyCPR throughout the day.
Malcolm Subban ($7,500) is the better of the two goalies. Subban hasn’t lost a game this season, and has over 30 saves in two of his four starts. But while Maxime Lagace ($7,300) had a rough start to the season, he’s be able to grab three wins in his last four starts, giving up only two goals in each of those wins. If Subban is in net, he’s a lock to play. If Lagace is in net, he’s a healthy consideration.
So, after reviewing all of our favorite options, here’s an example of a lineup we put together for Tuesday, November 28th:
C Stamkos (TB $8,700)
C Couturier (PHI $6,800)
W Kucherov (TB $8,800)
W Bailey (NYI $5,600)
W Perlini (ARI $3,700)
W Booth (DET $3,000)
D Josi (NSH $6,100)
D Provorov (PHI $4,500)
G Subban (VGK $7,500)
Note: This is a recommended lineup after discussing our top options for the week. You should use this as a guide, and provide your own input when building FanDuel NHL lineups. We are not telling you, or selling you, to use this lineup.
