Tim Hardaway Jr. ends half with the most swag possible
By Luke Goodman
The Knicks finished the half with a 21-point lead following, Tim Hardaway Jr.’s last-second 20-foot quasi-alley-oop and subsequent shimmy.
There are a few plays in basketball that everyone will agree are objectively cool. Buzzer-beaters? Cool. Alley-oops? Cool. Last-second heaves that find their way in the hoops? Super cool. Swag-tastic celebrations? The coolest. Somehow, Tim Hardaway Jr. figured out how to put them all together, and it was awesome.
With two second left on the clock before the half, the Knicks had lured the Miami Heat into a false sense of security by taking a commanding 19-point lead. Surely they wouldn’t feel the need to score again, right? Wrong. Hardaway wanted that 20-point lead, and he decided to get it in the most unlikely way possible.
Is it an alley-oop? Is it a heave? As the El Paso taco girl would say, “Why not both?” However you want to classify the shot, it was objectively awesome. Even more awesome was the celebration afterwards. Hardaway broke out his best Antoine Walker impersonation and used the shimmy to complete the swaggiest play of the NBA season so far.
Many fans criticized the Knicks organization for Hardway’s enormous $71 million contract this past off season, but there’s a good chance this play alone was worth the entire contract. If this isn’t enough, his 17.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game might help pay for the rest of the contract. The shimmy may have seemed a little cocky, but how can you not celebrate while hitting a shot like that and simultaneously proving the haters wrong?

The Knicks went on the roll over the Heat by 29 in a game that was never really a contest. Hardaway finished with 2 assists, 1 steal and 12 points, but no two points were scored as spectacularly as these two. This should be on highlight reals for a long, long time.
