Anthony Davis goes down with groin injury against Jazz

A promising start to the New Orleans Pelicans’ season could be for naught if Anthony Davis misses extended time with the groin injury he suffered Friday night.
Anthony Davis was already having a pretty bad day. It only got worse during the New Orleans Pelicans’ trip to take on the Utah Jazz on Friday night.
Davis was battling under the boards with Utah’s Derrick Favors early in the fourth quarter when he went down to the floor and stayed down. While there was no apparent hard contact during the play, he had to be helped off the court.
Trainers came over to look at Davis immediately, and the amount of pain he was in was readily apparent.
His ailment was reported as a groin injury, and Davis was described as doubtful to return.
The four-time All-Star has been somewhat injury plagued throughout his NBA career, though he played in a career-high 75 games just last season. David has missed time due to shoulder, ankle, hand and back injuries since entering the league, and a groin problem would unfortunately be yet another concern.
Earlier in the day, Davis was assessed a $25,000 fine by the NBA for his actions during the Pelicans’ Wednesday night home loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Davis was ejected during the game, and the reason for the fine was described by the league as “verbally abusing a game official and failing to leave the court in a timely manner following his ejection.”

In his first 20 games, Davis put up the second-best scoring and rebounding averages of his career while shooting at his highest field goal percentage ever. Any extended absence will put a lot of pressure on his teammates to maintain their 11-10 start, which currently would make the Pelicans the seventh seed in the Western Conference.
