ESPN College Pick Em Week 14: Boomer Sooner Again!

We finally have conference championship week on ESPN College Pick Em! It’s a tough week with a lot of good games! I ended up with 42 points last week, but still didn’t gain any ground.

More from College Football Odds

Fun facts for week 13: Oklahoma, Clemson, LSU, and Georgia had clean sweeps. Only MaizeNBlue picked Michigan. Only Gamebreaker_boz picked Georgia State. pitpenguins66 and TheMediumLebowski were the only ones to pick Fresno, but it was the one point game for both of them.

pitt2534 led the group for the second straight week! He had 52 points, only missing with Boise State. espn27604925 and pitpenguins66 were hot on his heels with 51 points. TheMediumLebowski was the only other to hit 50.

annelbaldwin still leads the group with 564 points. earleyca pulled to within two points this week, so we will have an exciting finish! TheMediumLebowski and Gamebreaker_boz are tied for third with 555points. pitpenguins66 is just two points behind them. SDShelton and pitt2534 both still have a shot at the top five.

These picks will be for the confidence version of the game, where you assign a point value from 1-10 based on how confident you are in each pick.

(1) Memphis over Central Florida:

I know that UCF is undefeated. I also know that that defense was gouged by USF last week. I d get that it was a rivalry game, but this Memphis team just looks a little more put together. The news on Scott Frost will likely drop on Sunday. Many around here speculate that that is why Nebraska has not announced their new coach yet. At any rate, there are a lot of distractions for the Knights right now. That gives Memphis a decided advantage.

(2) Wisconsin over Ohio State:

I never would made this pick three weeks ago. Wisconsin finally had to play some tough teams and looked good doing it. Many still don’t give the Badgers a chance, and honestly, they don’t look as good as they have in years past. Neither to the Buckeyes. I would argue that Wisconsin’s defense looks better. They will need to play a lot better to stop the run, but this is a game that Wisconsin can win.

(3) Boise over Fresno State:

Talk about anticlimactic. Not only was this game played last week, but it was also on Pick em last week! Most of us got it wrong. I still think my logic holds true. Fresno was in control of the game at home, but I’m not sure they can take it on the road. At least Boise knows what they need to work on!

(4) Arkansas State over Troy:

This will see if we truly have a changing of the guard in the Sun Belt. The Sun Belt lucked into a de facto Sun Belt Championship game here in Jonesboro. For that reason, I am taking Arkansas State.

(5) Clemson over Miami:

Clemson has a nasty defense and looks too balanced to lose this game. Not that I think Miami wont put up a fight. They will. And if they can force more than two turnovers, they have a legitimate chance to win this game. I just don’t see it happening. Clemson’s only loss came in a road game on a Friday night in which their starting quarterback went down. Miami also lost on a Friday, but the whole team stayed intact.

(6) Auburn over Georgia:

I don’t see Georgia being dominated like they were on the Plains, but Auburn still looks like the better team. For those of you clamoring for a larger playoff, WHY?!? This is a playoff game! We have had several playoff games over the course of the season! If you add teams to the playoff, you take away the importance of the regular season!

(7) Florida Atlantic over North Texas:

This is why no news has come on Lane Kiffin either. The Owls still have a game left, and it’s a pretty tough one. That said, FAU may be the most improved team since the first game of the season. They looked lost in September. Now they aren’t just beating all comers, they are destroying them. I don’t see that changing here.

(8) Appalachian State over Louisiana:

The Mountaineers find themselves in pick em for the second straight week! This is huge for the program! All kidding aside, this may be an even easier matchup for Appalachian State. Taylor Lamb is by far the best player in this game. And this game is in Boone. This looks like a big win for Appalachian.

(9) Toledo over Akron:

Our last MACtion of the year comes in a battle of Ohio teams played in Michigan. Makes perfect sense, right? We don’t care where the MACtion is, we will be there. The MAC provides a lot of entertaining football! This may not be it. Toledo is easily the best team in the MAC, and this year, the divisions were not very balanced. Toledo’s win over NIU a month ago was the de facto MAC Championship.

(10) Oklahoma over TCU:

I’m not going to move up the standings any if I don’t take some risks. Not that this is a big risk, but it is a lot higher than most people will have this game. Oklahoma dominated TCU a few weeks ago. Now the Sooners head to what is a road game at Jerry World. The only thing that makes me nervous is that the Sooners have not played well in shiny new stadiums. Just take a look at their poor record in the big shiny new stadium in the desert. This is a culmination of why Mayfield came back. The Heisman and playoff berth are his to lose, and I think he clinches it instead of losing it.
