Jimbo Fisher will leave Florida State for Texas A&M
Amid reports and speculation it’s been announced, Jimbo Fisher will resign his post as head coach at Florida State.
Going back a few weeks, rumors have tied Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher to the looming and now actual job opening at Texas A&M. Fisher was still planning to coach the Seminoles in Saturday’s regular season finale against Louisiana-Monroe, with bowl eligibility on the line, with another report Texas A&M is prepared to offer him a 10-year contract worth up to $75 million.
The logic of coaching the team for one more game when he’s on his way out can be debated, and it seemed clear Fisher would not remain at Florida State for a subsequent bowl game that would come with a win Saturday. Fisher has now flipped on coaching the Seminoles on Saturday, and he will resign immediately.
Fisher could now be in College Station as soon as Saturday, with an official announcement of him as Texas A&M’s new head coach coming soon after that. Earlier on Friday, Fisher “threw out” a sign he’s leaving Tallahassee soon.
Seminoles beat writer Wayne McGahee III, of the Tallahassee Democrat, posted the above tweet showing Fisher’s Christmas tree outside his house for garbage collection. At first glance it appears to be a fairly healthy tree, so discarding it is something someone who is probably moving soon would do, right? A local move is one thing, but the tree would not survive a move from Florida to Texas.
The validity of the tweet can be questioned, without further confirmation, but there’s no reason to believe McGahee would irresponsibly put his professional credibility on the line either. And it’s become clear Fisher will be gone from Tallahassee as soon as possible,

More fuel to the fire of rumors Fisher was set to leave Florida State was not needed, and all dry pine tree-as-kindling clichés or analogies can be set aside. But Fisher is now almost officially done at Florida State, and on his way to Texas A&M.
