Everton crushed West Ham, winning 4-0 on Wednesday behind a Wayne Rooney hat-trick. The win moved Everton to 13th place, five points clear of West Ham and the relegation zone. Huddersfield have struggled lately, losing three straight and four of their past five games. Over the last five games, Huddersfield have been outscored 14-2. Huddersfield are 14th in the Premier League but are level on points with Everton.
Saturday’s game will be the first for Sam Allardyce at Goodison Park. The veteran manager was officially hired on Thursday to take over for the disappointing club. Oumar Niasse is eligible to return for Everton after serving his two-match retrospective ban for simulation. Niasse has performed surprisingly well for the Toffees this season, scoring five goals in only 377 minutes. Despite keeping a clean sheet against West Ham, Everton are still one of the worst defensive teams in the Premier League. Only Stoke and West Ham have allowed more goals than Everton this season.
While Everton struggle defensively, Huddersfield struggle to score goals. Only two clubs, Swansea and Crystal Palace have scored fewer goals than the Terriers. Huddersfield have been held goalless in eight of their 14 games this season. Unlike the other promoted teams, Newcastle and Brighton, the Terriers have allowed 24 goals, the sixth most in the league.
