Florida State was able to keep their FBS record bowl streak alive with a 42-10 victory over Louisiana Monroe without Jimbo Fisher.
It has been an interesting season for the Florida State Seminoles. Coming into this season, they were expected to be competing for a playoff spot with Deandre Francois at the helm. When Francois went down with a knee injury in the season-opening los to Alabama, so did the hopes of leading the team to a national title.
This week started with speculation on whether Jimbo Fisher was leaving and the week ended with Fisher resigned from his position to take the job at Texas A&M. Even though Fisher was gone, the Seminoles still had a game to play that would decide whether the nation’s longest bowl streak would stay alive.
FSU came out the gate hot, and put down Lousiana-Monroe early, beating the Warhawks 42-10. This game was supposed to be scheduled in Week 2 but was moved because of Hurricane Irma. With the victory, the Seminoles moved to 6-6 on the season and became bowl-eligible, extending the streak to 36 straight seasons ending with a bowl game.
The Seminoles could have gone into a scant Doak Campell Stadium and just fall flat, but interim head coach Odell Haggins and his staff made sure that was not going to happen, as they put up 504 yards of total offense in the win.

Florida State had the running game going as they totaled 302 yards between Jacques Patrick and Cam Akers. Patrick ran for 155 yards and a pair of touchdowns while Akers powered his way to 117 yards and two touchdowns. In total, the Seminoles had five touchdowns on the ground with Ryan Green accounting for the final one in the fourth quarter.
Florida State will find out who their opponent and destination will be during Sunday afternoon when the bowl games and matchups are revealed during ESPN’s Selection Sunday show.
