Clemson and Miami will battle in the 2017 ACC Championship Game, which the College GameDay crew will be on-site for. Who will Lee Corso select with his headgear pick?
On Saturday morning, ESPN’s College GameDay will hit the road for one of the last times in the 2017 college football season. That means another on-site episode, with Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard and Lee Corso. The same goes for the latter man’s headgear selection, which gets made at 11:59 a.m. ET, leading everyone into the day’s slate of games.
For Championship Weekend, Corso must decide between Clemson and Miami. This is the ACC Championship Game, which takes place at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, NC.
Will the former coach choose the Tigers or Hurricanes? Let’s find out.
Corso went with Clemson over Miami in the ACC Championship Game to the dismay of Luther Campbell who was the guest picker and Miami superfan.
Essentially, Clemson vs. Miami is a quarterfinals game for the College Football Playoff. At No. 1 and No. 7 in the College Football Playoff Rankings, respectively, whoever wins this game should lock up a top-four spot. Defeating a top-10 team is terrific for anyone’s resume. Especially for Mark Richt’s team, who just lost to a subpar Pitt team and fell from No. 2.
Given the Tigers’ top spot, a win automatically gets them in, barring a drastic mindset change from the committee. That means being one step closer to a third consecutive National Championship Game and second straight title. It would obviously do wonders for the school and head coach Dabo Swinney’s list of accolades.
This game has all the makings of something special. Two of the nation’s best teams will settle the score, playing for a top-four spot and separating themselves from the rest of the top 10. That’s while other conference championship games, including the SEC and Big 12, have similar implications.
