The 2017 Conference USA Championship Game should be a good one, as the North Texas Mean Green (9-3) take on Lane Kiffin’s Florida Atlantic Owls (9-3). Kickoff from FAU Stadium in Boca Raton will be at 12:00 p.m. ET on Dec. 2. ESPN 2 will have the telecast with Jason Bennett and Kelly Stouffer in the booth to call it. North Texas went 9-3 (7-1) this season and won the Conference USA West division crown over the UAB Blazers by a game. The Mean Green’s lone loss in Conference USA play was to Florida Atlantic back on Oct. 21 in Boca Raton, 69-31. This is North Texas’ first division title since moving to Conference USA in 2013. Before that, the Mean Green have won 24 conference championships in their school’s history.
Florida Atlantic went 9-3 (8-0) this season and won the Conference USA East division title over the rival Florida International Panthers by three games. This is Kiffin’s first year leading the Owls. He has them playing in their second-ever conference championship and first since joining Conference USA in 2013. Kiffin’s Owls will be playing in their first bowl game since 2008 when the iconic Howard Schnellenberger was leading the young Florida Atlantic football program.
