College Football Playoff Rankings 2017: Projected final rankings
By Brad Weiss
With Championship Weekend in the books, lets take a look at what the College Football Playoff might look like when it is announced.
The College Football Playoff will be announced on Sunday, after an incredible slate of conference championship games on Saturday. The four teams announced for the playoff will play in either the Rose Bowl or Sugar Bowl in national semifinal games, with a spot in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game on the line. The action is certain to be must-watch football, as the semifinals will be matchups between the best of the best in college football.
Last Tuesday, the College Football Playoff rankings were announced, and the goal of the top four teams was very simple. If all four teams won, they would be heading to the playoff, but that scenario did not play out on Saturday. Oklahoma took care of business in the first game of the day, blowing out TCU in the Big 12 Championship Game, but the rest of the games did play out quite the same.
Auburn went into the SEC title game playing against a Georgia team who they had beaten three weeks early. Well, Georgia got its revenge, controlling the game throughout, and cruising to a 28-7 victory. In the ACC title game, Clemson took care of Miami in a big way, destroying the Hurricanes, and likely picking up the top spot in the playoff. Ohio State ruined Wisconsin’s undefeated season in the Big Ten title game, and opened up a spot for either them, or the Alabama Crimson Tide in the final four.
The national semifinal games will be played on New Year’s Day, and the national title game will be played the following week. In 2017, the Clemson Tigers upset the Alabama Crimson Tide to win it all, in a game that was a rematch of the year before. If Alabama gets in, we could see a third matchup between the two schools, but the Crimson Tide are going to need help if they are going to secure one of the final spots in the dance.
