Manchester City are first in the Premier League, eight points clear of Manchester United. Pep Guardiola’s side led the league with 40 goals in their first 14 games. On Sunday, they host West Ham, who are battling for survival, entering the weekend in 18th place. No team has allowed more goals than West Ham, which could mean Sunday’s game could be high scoring as the best offensive team host the worst defensive team.
City are not only the best team in the Premier League but might be the best team in Europe. Outside of a draw against Everton in the second weekend of the season, Manchester City have won every game. Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus and Leroy Sane have combined for 31 goals, more than every other Premier League team except for Manchester United who have scored 32 goals. Kevin De Bruyne has thrived under Guardiola, who has put the Belgium playmaker in the best position to take advantage of his skill set and pace.
West Ham were crushed 4-0 by a struggling Everton team on Wednesday. Following a humiliating defeat, teams can go one of two ways. Regroup and refocus on their next game or fall apart. If Moyes can not reorganize his team, they could be in for an even worse defeat against a City team that has cruised through the competition. Former City keeper Joe Hart will likely be very busy in goal on Sunday.
