1. Josh McDaniels

McDaniels is going to be a controversial candidate. Some people believe that the only time he’s found tangible success in the NFL is with Tom Brady, and the facts spell that out. McDaniels has been part of five Super Bowl championships with the New England Patriots, and when he went out on his own with the Denver Broncos in 2009, he was a miserable failure.

Still, McDaniels is almost a decade older and comes with a wealth of experience. McDaniels is also only 41 years old, and if the hiring turns out to be a stroke of genius, he’s potentially solving any head coaching issues for the next 25 years.

The Patriots’ offensive coordinator is getting plenty of buzz around the league, and sooner rather than later, will be leaving Foxborough for a head coaching gig. Considering the amount of jobs that will be open this winter, it’s likely he ends up moving on over the next few months.

If there is any downside to McDaniels, it’s that the Patriots look set to go on their annual playoff run. With that in mind, the Giants might not get him in the building until mid-February, something that also has to be considered with Haley. In the cases of Nagy, Vrabel and Smith, that isn’t a cause for concern.
