The race for the most prestigious award in college football has been a wild one, but when will the 2017 Heisman Trophy presentation be held?

To say that the race for the 2017 Heisman Trophy has been tumultuous or to call it a roller-coaster ride wouldn’t be doing it justice. For most of the college football season, it’s been a case of one guy emerging as the favorite only to falter and someone else to usurp them. However, things have taken shape over the last few weeks of the season as the time to present the award is nearing.

Early on in the year, however, it seemed as if Penn State Nittany Lions running back Saquon Barkley had the easy track to winning the most high-profile award in the sport. He was electric and has remained so. With that said, a pedestrian string of games in the heart of the regular season hurt his case tremendously. Now he’ll be lucky to be invited to New York City for the 2017 Heisman Trophy presentation.

In the meantime, it now appears that Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield has the award locked up. Mayfield is no stranger to New York City in regards to the award as he was a finalist just last year. However, the former walk-on has upped the ante this season, leading the Sooners to a Big 12 Championship and doing so with patented flair and dominance. In doing so, it would be a shock to see him not win the award.

The big question, though, is who will be joining him in New York City as the other finalists for the award. Stanford Cardinal running back Bryce Love seems like a lock, and last year’s winner Lamar Jackson should receive an invite as well. Whether or not anyone else will be present, though, remains to be seen.
