Things got a little bit chippy in Monday nights game between the Pelicans and Warriors.

The Pelicans are already without Anthony Davis Monday night and for the foreseeable future with a groin injury, but things still managed to get a little bit wild in their matchup with the Warriors.

DeMarcus Cousins (of course) and Kevin Durant got into it late in the fourth quarter, and it led to both of them getting ejected. This is the third time in the last 18 games that Durant has been ejected. He’d only been ejected twice in the first 810 games of his career.

The exchange of words happened with 1:14 left in the fourth quarter, and the best part is that it’s an eight-point game. The Warriors we getting absolutely clobbered the entire night. They trailed by as much as 21 points, and were down 69-49 going into halftime.

In classic Warriors fashion, they erased that deficit like it was nothing, and held the Pelicans to 46 points in the second half. Cousins finished three assists from a triple-double while Durant had a solid day at the office finishing with 19 points, seven boards and five assists.

Back to the fight that almost was. I’m not entirely sure this is a fight Kevin Durant really wants to pick. Cousins is borderline seven feet tall and weighs 270 pounds. Durant has had 10 years of NBA strength training, but let’s face it, he’s still a little on the slim side when compared to Cousins.

I understand that you have to stand your ground, but given Cousins’ previous history in these situations, rthis isn’t the brightest of ideas. The Pelicans were in Portland on Saturday night, and Meyers Leonard slapped Cousins really hard on a shot attempt, and was actually called for a flagrant foul. As soon as he hit Cousins though you could see the fear on his face.

This is the second time in as many games that the Warriors have had a player ejected for one reason or another. Couple that with Steph Curry’s semi-habit of throwing his mouthpiece, and the Warriors are paying a lot of money to the league office this season.
