The Lakers are now enforcing an existing rule involving the guests of players.

LaVar Ball gets to be the part of the center of attention for another day around the Lakers facility. According to reports from Chris Haynes of ESPN, the team is going to start enforcing “an existing policy” at the Staples Center. The “LaVar Ball” rule will now prohibit media members to gather around where the family and associates of players are.

Usually the family members and associates wait for the players behind the basket closest to the visitor’s locker room after the games. Now interviews in that area and the tunnel leading to the arena corridors are prohibited, and if a media member is recognized in that area they will be asked to leave said area.

According to a team spokesperson this rule isn’t new. They are just enforcing the rule because they’ve had more media presence than ever before this season. Let’s be totally honest for a minute here. The only reason the Lakers are enforcing this rule is because of a certain someone, who’s the father of the team’s starting point guard.

It’s actually kind of surprising because LaVar Ball hasn’t actually said that much this season. Ball had been dealing with the incident involving his middle son LiAngelo Ball, and usually when the media talks to him it’s during the game. Recently he did have some opinions on the way Luke Walton coaches Lonzo Ball, but Walton brushed those comments aside.

LaVar did also do a postgame interview following the Lakers 127-123 loss to the Golden State Warriors, and said Julius Randle should have passed Lonzo the ball for a potential game-winner. He also said that Walton should have done the “Big Baller move” and not called a timeout.

LaVar Ball is also not allowed to do postgame on-court interviews. The league rule is that an individual must be credentialed to enter onto the court, but LaVar hasn’t done one of those since opening night.

This rule only applies to the Staples Center so the Lakers can’t do anything when they’re on the road. I can’t imagine this rule will be too hard to follow, but LaVar knows where the cameras are at all times.
