When Celtic and Anderlecht were placed in a group with Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, no one expected either club to advance out of the group. Predictably, the two clubs lost all of their games against PSG and Bayern by wide margins. Celtic and Anderlecht have been eliminated from Champions League but one of the teams will advance to the Europa League for finishing third in the group. In the reverse fixture, Celtic defeated Anderlecht 3-0 and are firmly in the driver’s seat for a spot in Europa League. The only way Anderlecht can advance is if they beat Celtic by at least four goals on Tuesday.
Brendan Rodgers’ club are first in Scotland, having not lost a game domestically. Celtic hold a seven-point lead over Rangers in the table. However, with his club holding a three-goal lead, Rodgers will likely install a conservative game plan and limit his team’s attack.
Anderlecht enter Tuesday’s game with nothing to lose. The Belgian club will have to attack the entire game if they have any chance of beating Celtic by four goals. However, an aggressive attack will leave them vulnerable to a counter attack. Henry Onyekuru leads Anderlecht with nine goals in all competitions and will be the focal point of Anderlecht’s attack.
