Warriors fans are holding their breath after Steph Curry had to leave Monday night’s game.
The Warriors had an eventful Monday night against the Pelicans. They erased a 20-point deficit en route to a 125-115 victory. Kevin Durant and DeMarcus Cousins were also ejected in the fourth quarter of that game. Lost in the shuffle was the injury to Steph Curry.
Late in the fourth quarter after Durant and Cousins had their little spat. Curry rolled his right ankle and had to leave the game. It’s the same ankle he’s had surgery on twice before earlier in his career.
It looked pretty bad when it happened, and Curry was in visible pain as he limped off the court. The Warriors are only calling it a sprain, but he will have a MRI on that ankle on Tuesday according to The Vertical’s Shams Charania. Curry was also seen leaving the arena on crutches.
This is a scenario where it’s better to be safe than sorry. The Warriors are already considered a lock to win another NBA Championship so there’s no reason to rush Curry back. It’s only December, and there’s still a long season left ahead of them. Besides, it’s not like they don’t have two other All-Stars and a former MVP on the roster anyway.
Next: LeBron should be the MVP
Even if this injury sidelines Curry for an extended amount of time I don’t think the team will suffer much from his absence. The Warriors did recently play a game without both Durant and Curry in the lineup, and it didn’t go so well as they lost to the Sacramento Kings at home.
The Warriors don’t have all that difficult of a schedule coming up. The best teams they’ll play in the coming weeks is the Detroit Pistons and Portland Trail Blazers. They also obviously have their Christmas day match up with the LeBron and the Cavs. The primary goal is to get Curry healthy, and have him 100 percent post All-Star break, because if the Warriors want to win another title they will most certainly need Curry in the lineup.
