2018 NFL Mock Draft: Sam Darnold replaces Eli Manning
By Brad Weiss
The New York Giants once-proud organization has suddenly become a laughingstock, and it just got worse this week. One week after then-head coach Ben McAdoo benched Giants legend Eli Manning for Geno Smith, the organization gave McAdoo his walking papers, but not before he ruined Manning’s streak of 210 consecutive starts. General Manager Jerry Reese was also shown the door, as team owner John Mara showed a bit of backbone on Monday morning.
For the Giants, their hope has to be that they can salvage whatever is left of the season, and they did the right thing by putting Manning back under center. However, Manning’s time as a legitimate starter in the NFL is coming to an end, and the time has come for the organization to draft their next franchise quarterback. Sam Darnold would be a perfect successor for Manning, who could wind up playing out his contract before Darnold takes over.
The Giants have talent on this roster, and the 2017 season has been one of the more surprising campaigns in recent memory. McAdoo was a terrible mistake as a head coach, and Reese paid the price for hiring him on Monday. If they can pick up a player like Darnold, and bolster their offensive line this offseason, they should be back in business before too long.
