Relive the best moments of Baker Mayfield’s season for the Oklahoma Sooners that should be rewarded with him winning the Heisman Trophy.

Spoiler alert: Baker Mayfield is going to win the Heisman Trophy.

The ceremony won’t be until later tonight on ESPN, but the Oklahoma redshirt senior quarterback is the runaway favorite to win the Trophy over Bryce Love and Lamar Jackson. It didn’t always look like Mayfield would join Billy Sims, Jason White and Sam Bradford as Heisman winners for the Sooners, especially not after Oklahoma lost to Iowa State in the middle of the season.

However, that loss didn’t prove to be a death sentence for Mayfield’s Heisman hopes and it didn’t end their pursuit of a Big 12 title or a College Football Playoff berth. As Mayfield’s play was consistently dominant down the stretch and the other candidates fell off the pack, Mayfield emerged as the leader.

The only knock on his Heisman resume was the Kansas game where he made a lewd gesture on the sideline toward the Kansas sideline and took part in some trash talking with the Jayhawks fans. I think the whole thing was blown up more than it needed to be, but things are amplified when you’re the best player in college football, so I do understand that part of the deal.

In other years, that may have been reason enough to not vote for Mayfield if the other candidates were even in the same stratosphere as him, but they’re not, and that’s why he may set a record for margin of victory when the Heisman is announced.

Should Mayfield win the Heisman, and he will, his next goal will be winning the Rose Bowl over Georgia and winning the College Football Playoff. If Mayfield can win both in the same season, he’ll only be the sixth such player to accomplish that double duty.
