Bayern Munich extended their lead in the Bundesliga with a 3-1 win against Hannover. The win moved Bayern six points clear of RB Leipzig, who lost 4-0 against Hoffenheim. On Saturday, Eintracht Frankfurt host Bayern at the Commerzbank-Arena. Frankfurt are eighth in the Bundesliga table but are level on points with Borussia Dortmund, who occupy the last European position.
On Tuesday, Bayern defeated Paris Saint-Germain 3-1, finishing second in their group behind the French club. Corentin Tolisso scored twice, finishing a beautiful cross from James Rodriguez with a powerful header and hammering home a pass from Kingsley Coman. Rodriguez has elevated his game under manager Jupp Heynckes, who has been starting Rodriguez behind striker Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker scored against Hannover and PSG, bringing his season goal total to 20 in all competitions.
Frankfurt have played well lately, picking up 15 points in their last eight games. Manager Niko Kovac took a risk during the summer signing Kevin-Prince Boateng. Boateng’s last stint in the Bundesliga ended when he was suspended indefinitely by Schalke in May 2015 and eventually had his contract terminated in December 2015. After leaving Schalke Boateng was disappointing his return to A.C. Milan, leaving the club after six months. Last season, Boateng played for Las Palmas to mixed results and opted to end his contract with the Spanish club and sign with Frankfurt. Boateng has scored three times for Frankfurt and provided his usual aggressive style of play, helping Eintracht win back possession in midfield.
