What time is the Heisman Trophy actually handed out?
If you don’t feel like watching the entire Heisman Trophy presentation tonight on ESPN, here’s when the winner will be announced so you can get right to the good stuff.
For the last 14 weeks, college football fans have devoted their Saturday to the sport. And I mean the entire day. From the time College GameDay starts at 9:00 a.m. until the final Pac-12 games are wrapped up for the day past midnight on the east coast. So, if you have some Christmas shopping you need to do or hang up your decorations and get a Christmas tree and don’t have time to devote to the sport today, I understand.
Having said that, there is still the Army-Navy game this afternoon, which is arguably the best game of the year for myriad reasons. This is the game that just means more to borrow a phrase from the SEC. After that, our attention diverts to the Heisman Trophy presentation.
The ceremony will see Lamar Jackson, Bryce Love or Baker Mayfield join the elite fraternity of Heisman Trophy winners. Mayfield is the runaway favorite and won the Davey O’Brien Award as the nation’s top quarterback and the Walter Camp Award as the player of the year earlier this week. The Walter Camp winner the last four years has won the Heisman, so it’s looking pretty good he’s going to hear his name called tonight.

Now if you don’t have an hour to devote to the Heisman presentation and just want to skip the fluff and get right to the good stuff, I don’t blame you. You’ll want to tune to ESPN or open up the ESPN mobile app at 8:45 p.m. ET. The winner is usually announced in the final five-10 minutes to give time for the winner’s acceptance speech.

If you tune in with about 15 minutes to go, that’ll give you a buffer to make sure you’re not missing the winner being named or his speech, and you won’t have to sit through the first 45 minutes that rehash all the storylines you’ve heard for the better part of the month.
