Real Madrid enter the week in fourth place, eight points behind La Liga-leading Barcelona. Sevilla are one place behind Madrid but have the same number of points heading into their game on Saturday. On Wednesday, both Madrid and Sevilla advanced to the round of 16 in Champions League after finishing second in their group.
Madrid defeated Borussia Dortmund 3-2 in the final game of the group stage. Cristiano Ronaldo scored his ninth goal in Champions League, becoming the first player to score in every game of the group stage. While Ronaldo scored nine goals in Champions League, he has struggled in La Liga. The Portuguese superstar has scored only two goals domestically. In their last La Liga game, Madrid were held to a scoreless draw for the second time in their past three games. Already eight points behind Barcelona, Madrid cannot afford to drop points and fall further behind their league rivals.
Sevilla drew with Slovenia side Maribor to advance to the round of 16 after Liverpool hammered Spartak Moscow 7-0. Much like Ronaldo, Wissam Ben Yedder has performed better in Champions League. The French striker scored six goals in the group stage but has only three goals in La Liga. Ben Yedder will likely be the focal point of the Sevilla attack on Saturday. Eduardo Berizzo’s side has won three consecutive games and four of their past five games to sit just outside of the top four.
