AC Milan vs. Bologna live stream: Watch Serie A live
AC Milan desperately need the win against Bologna on Sunday, Dec. 10 at the San Siro as both teams fight for a spot in Europe. Here’s what you need to know before you watch.
AC Milan come into matchday 16 in desperation mode. The club are in the midst of rebuilding and that process has had its growing pains. After a poor start under coach Vincenzo Montella, the club sacked him last month and replaced the former striker with Gennaro Gattuso. Even with the former AC Milan and Italy midfielder at the helm, the team were unable to win last Sunday, drawing winless Benevento 2-2 on a last-gasp goal by goalkeeper Alberto Brignoli for their first-ever Serie A point.
In a season where almost everything has gone wrong for the Rossoneri (despite spending large sums of cash to buy new players this past summer), it only seemed fitting that an opposing goalkeeper on a team with no points would equalize the match. It’s up to Gattuso’s side to shake that off and host Bologna in another game that could prove dangerous for this AC Milan side seemingly incapable of putting away games.
AC Milan’s match against Bologna will be Gattuso’s first home game since taking over the team. Gattuso will likely be warmly embraced by the Rossoneri faithful given his success at the club as a player. The fans are looking for a glimmer of hope — and Gattuso is, for now, the only person who can try and right the Milan ship in an effort to finish the season in the top half of the table.
AC Milan, who recently secured their place in the knockout round of the Europa League, are currently in seventh place with 21 (in a three-way tie with Bologna and Fiorentina), which makes Sunday’s match even more competitive. While AC Milan have had their troubles, Bologna under coach Roberto Donadoni, a former AC Milan midfielder, have been impressive at times this season. For a mid-table side with ambitions of grabbing a Europa League spot, Donadoni said Bologna “are getting better, in fact the table shows that clearly.”
Bologna’s demolition of Sampdoria just two weeks ago was a sign to Donadoni that his is a side capable of surprising opponents.
“Our 3-0 win over Sampdoria should not be a one-off, so we’ve got to give some consistency to our performances,” he added. “Obviously, we are looking at the table, but it won’t change our approach to the games.”
Bologna are led by winger Simone Verdi, a former AC Milan prospect who landed at the Reggio Emilia-based club in July 2016, His four goals have been key for the Rossoblu this season and he hopes to add to that tally against his former club. While several clubs Italian clubs have expressed an interest in buying Verdi once the January transfer market opens, Bologna confirmed this week that he isn’t for sale.

Bologna, similar to Atalanta last season, know that keeping their roster intact could help them land a Europa League spot come May. What Bologna also need is consistency. That’s something players like Verdi have brought them this season. As AC Milan and Bologna duke it out this weekend, it’s a reminder to the Rossoneri that a manager is only part of the story. In the end, winning is the only real remedy for a bad season.
