Cam Newton is the MVP of trolling, busting out Prince cleats to dance all over the Vikings with.
Forever and always, the NBA will be the pettiest sport in the world. There is no group of athletes more dedicated to getting inside of each other’s heads and/or running with a subplot like basketball players.
Some NFL players, however, are trying to make football petty again — or something like that. Cam Newton loves to talk trash like the best of them, and is showing that just like the Panthers playoff hopes his troll game remains strong.
First off, we need to preface this with the fact that Newton played very well against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. Mike Zimmer’s defense is one of the best units in football, but Newton has silenced doubters once again with another solid performance.
Just check out this touchdown pass to Devin Funchess:
You can’t see them on that highlight, because he took them off, but imagine it going down with ruffled cleats. That’s what Newton busted out in pregame warmups — Prince inspired cleats. That’s taking the troll game to the next level.
Minnesota is all about Prince, and I say that as a native of the greatest state in the Union. He was a global icon, generational talent and sex symbol — all things not usually attributed to Minnesotans. Yet, Prince was one of us and never shied away from hits roots. His music was called ‘Minneapolis Sound’, and he’s become even more beloved in death.
The Wild use Let’s go Crazy has its goal song, the Twins have Prince night. The Vikings — the most natural of the local teams to bathe in Purple Rain — are now as closely associated with Prince as any natural resource in the state.
Cam both honoring one of his heroes and also going directly at the throat of Minnesota is as savage as it gets. Put some respect on this troll.
