After losing their first league game of the season last week, Napoli dropped to second in the Serie A table. Entering the weekend, Napoli trail Inter by one point and are ahead of Juventus by one point. On Saturday, Napoli host Fiorentina, who are seventh in Serie A with 21 points.
On Wednesday, Napoli were eliminated from Champions League after losing 2-1 to Feyenoord. As a consolation prize, Napoli qualified for Europa League after finishing third in the group. Napoli are second in Serie A with 35 goals, with Dries Mertens leading the club with 10 goals. Maurizio Sarri has started Mertens in the middle with José Callejón on the right and Lorenzo Insigne on the left-wing. However, Insigne might miss Sunday’s game with an injury. Piotr Zielinski started in place of Insigne against Feyenoord on Wednesday would likely start again if Insigne is unable to play. Defensively, Napoli have allowed the fewest goals in Serie A. Senegal center-back Kalidou Koulibaly has had a very good season, organizing the club at the back in front of Pepe Reina.
Fiorentina have picked up five points in their last three games, beating Sassuolo 3-0 in their last game. The club sits seventh in the table, which is an appropriate place for a team that is seventh in goals for and goals against. Fiorentina’s front three of Giovanni Simeone, Cyril Théréau, and Federico Chiesa have combined for 13 goals this season. At 20-years-old, Chiesa is one of the best young Italian talents in Serie A. While Diego Simeone’s son Giovanni has had a strong first season with Fiorentina after a summer move from Genoa.
