After winning NBA Finals Most Valuable Player last year, Kevin Durant was one of the favorites to be regular season MVP this season. His odds have dropped so far, but perhaps the recent injury to Steph Curry could jump start his candidacy. Or maybe there is another award that he could be making a push for: Defensive Player of the Year. As a versatile, long-limbed defender he is second in the NBA in blocks and blocks per game and is helping the Warriors lead the league in opponent FG% as a team.

But is it possible he could overtake his teammate and reigning DPOY Draymond Green? Which one of them is more important to anchoring Golden State’s defense? And if Durant did happen to win, how would Green react?

To help answer these questions and talk about anything else that might be concerning to the not-at-all-concerned Warriors, Sam Esfandiari joins the latest episode of Fastbreak Breakfast. Sam contributes to Warriors World and is a host of the Light Years Podcast.

Also covered:

  • Who is the more impactful player considering both ends of the floor, Durant or Kawhi Leonard?
  • Is there any rhyme or reason to the playing time of the frontcourt bigs?
