With the start of the qualification process just weeks away, another big component for the NBA 2K League was revealed on Monday.
Jerry West is the embodiment of the NBA logo, and now fans of the upcoming NBA 2K League know who, or more appropriately what, is the centerpiece of the 2K League’s logo.
On Monday, Dec. 11, the NBA 2K League revealed its official logo. Although the 2K League logo mimics the blue, red and white colors and rectangular shape of the NBA’s logo, there is one very important difference.
The logo does not feature a silhouette of any human being, but rather presents the iconic seams of a basketball. The league’s press release says the design is to intended to represent the league’s inclusive nature. Skill in the game, not any demographic like age, gender or nationality is all that’s required to participate. This logo, and the individual logos for the 17 franchises who will be part of the league’s first season, were all designed by RARE Design of Hattiesburg, Miss.

Those individual franchise logos will be revealed later this week, and it will be intriguing to see which elements of the NBA teams’ logos are discarded, retained or transformed for their 2K League counterparts.
This revelation comes on the heels of the 2K League revealing the structure for how players can qualify for its tryouts ahead of the March player draft. In addition to the individual team logos, we are still awaiting updates from the league on where games between teams will be played, how much players in the league will make, and what the draft order will be. Details like the fact that players will use custom avatars in game play and others have already been revealed by the league.

When the league begins play in May, it will be the culmination of months of preparation by the league’s staff and the vendors it has partnered with. If the rest of the league’s development is as successful as this logo design, the first season of the league should not disappoint.
