Kristaps Porzingis is the first player in NBA history with this stat line
Kristaps Porzingis is the first player in NBA history with at least 35 points, 10 rebounds, 5 blocks and 5 3-pointers in one game.
In last night’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers, Kristaps Porzingis helped lead his New York Knicks to a 113-109 victory. His finished the night with 37 points, 11 rebounds, and five blocked shots. He also knocked down five of eight 3-pointers. While Porzingis leading the Knicks to a so far, four-way tie for the sixth spot in the East is impressive, his stat line last night officially became the first of its kind.
The Knicks saw the potential star power Porzingis could bring to the table when he was drafted in 2015. It’s perhaps a reason the Knicks traded Carmelo Anthony; the Knicks knew the impact Porzingis could have on the franchise. When a player shows he can have volume scoring, rebounding, elite defending and shooting, a franchise can build around you.
Porzingis so far is averaging 26 points and a shade under seven rebounds per game. He’s also shooting 46 percent from the floor and 40 percent from 3. According to SBNation’s Matt Ellentuck, what has made Porzingis such a force has been his ability to shoot under pressure.
"This season, Porzingis is shooting 58 percent from the field on three-point attempts per game when he’s guarded by what NBA player tracking stats deem as “very tight” defense (0-2 feet away). That’s seven percent better than his numbers from 2-4 feet away (eight attempts). For comparison’s sake, Joel Embiid shoots 55 percent against “very tight” defense, according to NBA player tracking stats, on the same number of attempts. Karl-Anthony Towns is at 53 percent."

Porzingis is only the ripe age of 22, so he has much time to evolve to his true potential. If last night was any indicator, he may reach it faster than we may expect.
