Southampton are 11th in the league table entering their game on Wednesday against Leicester. The Foxes have climbed up the table, and enter the game in 8th place following a 3-2 win against Newcastle.
Southampton held Arsenal to a 1-1 draw over the weekend, their second straight 1-1 draw. However, the Saints have won only one of their last seven games. Despite picking up only six points in their last seven games, the Saints remain in the middle of the table. Against Leicester, Southampton will rely on Charlie Austin to find the back of the net. After scoring four goals in his last four games, Austin is the team leader with five goals on the season.
Wednesday’s game will be a return to St. Mary’s Stadium for Claude Puel. The Leicester manager held the same position with Southampton for the 2016-17 season but was fired after one season. Leicester have won their past three games and picked up 14 of a possible 21 points under Puel to move into the top half of the table. Riyad Mahrez scored in Leicester’s win against Newcastle to give him four goals this season. Mahrez has been the Foxes’ most dynamic player this season, contributing goals and assisting on four other goals. Jamie Vardy leads Leicester with seven goals but has scored only one goal over his past five games.
