Who does Benicio del Toro play in Star Wars: The Last Jedi? We have all the information you need to get you ready for the latest movie from a galaxy far, far away.
First movies in franchises tend to do a lot of table setting in terms of worldbuilding and character introductions. Star Wars: The Force Awakens was no different, with a film predominantly made up of new characters.
Han Solo and Princess Leia both played key roles, while Luke Skywalker appeared briefly at the end. What’s more, Chewbacca, C-3PO, R2-D2 and the likes of Admiral Ackbar and Nien Nunb were also part of the overall story.
However, outside of that group, there were few familiar faces. The rest of the cast was predominantly made up of new characters like Daisy Ridley’s Rey, John Boyega’s Finn, Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron, Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren, Lupita Nyongo’s Maz Kanata, Domhnall Gleeson’s General Hux, Gwendoline Christie’s Captain Phasma and Andy Serkis’ Supreme Leader Snoke.
Those characters will all return in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, with a few notable additions.
The new members of the cast include Kelly Marie Tran’s Rose Tico, Laura Dern’s Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo and Benicio Del Toro’s DJ.
All three will likely be playing important roles in the film, with Del Toro’s DJ particularly standing out due to the mystery surrounding his character.
There isn’t much to go on with DJ, but in an Entertainment Weekly article in August, the publication wrote the following about the character:
"“All we know for sure is that Del Toro plays a man who goes by the name “DJ.” And his shabby appearance suggests someone familiar with the underbelly of the galaxy.”"
It will certainly be interesting to see not only what kind of impact Del Toro’s character will have on the overall story, but how he interacts with the other characters in a galaxy far, far away.
