After picking up only five points in their previous six games, Tottenham responded with a 5-1 smashing of Stoke. The win moved Spurs to sixth in the league table, two points behind fourth-place Liverpool. On Wednesday, Spurs host Brighton at Wembley Stadium. The Seagulls have struggled lately, picking up only two points in their last five games.
Harry Kane scored twice against Stoke, giving the English striker 12 goals to lead all Spurs players. Offensively, Spurs have scored the fifth most goals in the Premier League and allowed the fifth fewest goals. With Davinson Sanchez suspended for Spurs last game against Stoke, Mauricio Pochettino decided to move Eric Dier to center-back. The move paid off and will likely see Pochettino continue to deploy Dier at the back rather than his natural midfield position. Sanchez will likely return to the starting XI on Wednesday after serving his suspension. Tottenham will likely start Danny Rose and Serge Aurier who received a game off as Pochettino rotated his squad and gave younger players more playing time.
Brighton have lost three of their previous four games to fall to 13th in the league table. While the Seagulls have a middle of the pack defense, they have struggled to find the back of the net. Only four teams have scored fewer goals than Brighton. Glenn Murray and Pascal Groß have combined for eight of the team’s 14 goals. Groß has been Brighton’s best offensive player, assisting on five goals this season. Chris Hughton’s side will likely rely on Groß finding a way to break down Tottenham’s defense and sending a ball into Murray to finish.
