15 worst current, former and hypothetical college football bowl game names
6. GoDaddy.com Bowl
If you’re like me, you grew up having no idea what the GoDaddy commercials were about. The website-building business bought itself the name rights for a bowl game and it just sounded ridiculous. Granted, I only saw them pre-high school days and it was during the Super Bowl so they especially didn’t make much sense.
The last head coach to win the GoDaddy Bowl, which ended in January of 2015, was Matt Campbell. Yes, the same coach that led Iowa State to relevance in 2017. He was a heck of a coach for the Toledo Rockets for years before getting hired by the Cyclones.
This is another one of those bowls that tried out the “.com” in its name before dropping it because everyone realized that businesses had their own websites.
While GoDaddy is already an interesting business name, it was an even more interesting bowl game name. It was around as the GoDaddy.com Bowl from 2011-13 and then just the GoDaddy Bowl from 2014-15 and it’s since changed to the Dollar General Bowl.
It’s featured some high-scoring affairs between the MAC and Sun Belt, including a 63-44 win by those Toledo Rockets a couple of years ago, led by current Kansas City Chiefs star Kareem Hunt.
