This game will mark the second contest of the 2017-18 season in which San Antonio sees star forward Kawhi Leonard take the court. Leonard made his season debut on Tuesday in the Spurs’ loss to the Dallas Mavericks. The former San Diego State standout logged 16 minutes of playing time, contributing 13 points and six rebounds. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the San Antonio and was the team’s second defeat in their last 10 games.
Leonard should see more playing time against Houston, but it’s likely that he’ll still see his minutes limited as he works back into form. It could be tempting to give Leonard more run in an effort to make a statement against a team of Houston’s caliber, but Spurs head coach Greg Popovich isn’t likely to fall for such a short-sighted trap.
As of Wednesday, Houston sits atop the Western Conference standings thanks to a slight lead over the reigning NBA champion Golden State Warriors. The Rockets have been sensational this season, and the team has won all 10 of their games since point guard Chris Paul’s return to the lineup.

San Antonio sits firmly in third place in the conference standings, as theSpurs have done an excellent job keeping their heads far above water in Leonard’s absence. His return to the lineup should take the onus off big man LaMarcus Aldridge to be the go-to offensive option for the Spurs.
