Does Rey turn to the dark side in The Last Jedi?

One of the biggest questions in the Last Jedi is whether Rey turns to the dark side and joins the First Order.

Just so we here at FanSided are not accused of spoiling anything, this is a warning: There will be key plot points discussed of The Last Jedi. If fans are looking to avoid any spoilers, now is the time to hit “Back” on the browser. Seriously, huge, massive spoilers are ahead.

Throughout most of the movie, director Rian Johnson does an excellent job of teasing both Rey and Kylo Ren turning to the other side. Fans start to learn that they both share a very strong connection through the Force. This will certainly make for some interesting fan theories to bide time between now and the release of Episode IX, but that is neither here nor there. In the end, Rey does not join the dark side and is set firmly in the camp of the Resistance.

Rey has all the fuel to turn to the dark side, and there are many junctures that she could turn. There’s a very dark presence on Ahch-To that calls to her immediately. The lack of knowledge of her parents burns through her soul and threatens to turn her. Supreme Leader Snoke and Kylo Ren both try to twist with that knife, to no avail.

Even after Snoke is killed and that threat fades, Kylo offers her to rule the galaxy with him. This is happening while Rebel freighters are being blown up behind her and it would have been so easy to cave. The Resistance and everything Rey was fighting for was about to be wiped out and yet she stood tall.

It’s exciting to have a talented actress like Daisy Ridley taking over the mantle as the hope the Rebellion has always needed and while turning could have been one way to go, she feels at home as the protagonist. Episode IX and the (maybe?) completion of Rey’s story arc can’t come soon enough.
