Is Hayden Christensen in The Last Jedi?
By Buckie Wells
Following Anakin’s redemption in Return of the Jedi (and the fact that Hayden Christensen later appeared as his Force ghost), a Last Jedi cameo isn’t out of the question.
As of the Return of the Jedi, Anakin Skywalker is officially a good guy. And though the prequels explored his fall to the dark side, his son Luke ultimately redeemed him, which eventually leads to the very divisive moment where George Lucas digitally added Hayden Christensen to 1983’s Return of the Jedi. Why would such a younger version of the character be there, hmm?
Well, controversy aside, Anakin found the path to immortality just like the rest of the proper Jedi before him.
Before we go any further, there are spoilers ahead and a few speculative ideas of my own:
No, Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker does not appear in The Last Jedi. But because of how the sequel trilogy has spent its cameos thus far, I think he’s on his way.
Part of Kylo Ren’s torment comes from the fact that he has no idea who he is or who he wants to be. He feels that Luke Skywalker and his parents betrayed him, and spends much of his time trying to emulate Darth Vader and finish what he started. By the end of The Last Jedi, we really see how much anger Kylo Ren has toward Luke, so whether as a Force ghost or not, Luke won’t be the one who gets through to him.
But Anakin could.
I mean, they obviously share a similar hot streak fueled by their misunderstanding of the Force/power and being embroiled in a family that conceals the truth from them on a regular basis.
And if he doesn’t appear to Kylo, how awesome would it be to see him hang around Rey? Someone who deserves and would probably really appreciate his insight. Plus, it would just burn Kylo to such a hilarious degree that I would be forever thankful.

So if we get to see Anakin Skywalker again, I’m all for another Hayden Christensen appearance. He attended the Star Wars Celebration in Orlando earlier this year and reminded me of how much I missed his portrayal of the infamous sand-hater.
