The bowl season kicks off with six games tomorrow. It’s almost like a whole football Saturday! I will not make a pick for the Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl. I wouldn’t be doing you any justice there. The only 1-AA teams I have watched are North Dakota State and Youngstown State. I wouldn’t be making an educated pick.
However, for the rest of the bowls, you will get my picks against the spread just like I did all season long. I had a decent regular season, but I can make it look a whole lot better with a strong bowl season!

Marshall vs. Colorado State(-6.5)(3):
Marshall 7-5, 4-4(t6th CUSA):
Wins: vs. Miami(OH)(31-26), vs. Kent(21-0), at Cincinnati(38-21), at Charlotte(14-3), vs. Old Dominion(35-3), at Middle Tennessee State(38-10), vs. Western Kentucky(30-23)
Losses: at North Carolina State(20-37), vs. Florida International(30-41), at Florida Atlantic(25-30), at UTSA(7-9), vs. Southern Mississippi(27-28)
Record vs. bowl teams: 2-4
Marshall stumbled down the stretch, winning just once in the last five games. Chase Litton is a very good quarterback, but the offense has not been the most consistent unit around this year. A good defense can pretty much take Marshall out of the game like UTSA did.
Colorado State 7-5, 5-3(t3rd Mountain West):
Wins: vs. Oregon State(58-27), vs. Abilene Christian(38-10), at Hawaii(51-21), at Utah State(27-14), vs. Nevada(44-42), at New Mexico(27-24), vs. San Jose State(42-14)
Losses: vs. Colorado(3-17), at Alabama(23-41), vs. Air Force(28-45), at Wyoming(13-16), vs. Boise State(52-59)
Record vs. bowl teams: 1-3
Nick Stevens had a really good year. Possibly even better than the Rams had expected. This defense let the team down on more than one occasion. There were high hopes after they hung with Alabama. Instead they lost three of the last four games. The inconsistency of the Rams make them hard to pick.
Prediction:
You could make a case that Marshall is more tested, but Colorado State did play Alabama. As I mentioned above, the inconsistency of the Rams is a problem. Both teams seemed to be heading in the right direction, then they both stumbled down the stretch. Who is more likely to rebound? I’m going with the team that is only a couple of hours up the road.
Pick: Colorado State
